Blog review Suzuki SV650X

SUZUKI SV650X
Suzuki’s attempt at a middleweight retro looking naked motorcycle has certainly paid off. Resulting in this fantastic updated SV650X.
What do you get under the bells and whistles of the “X” racer version?
Clip-ons and special bodywork, contributing to amazing handling at just under 200kg, top notch quality for money and reliability.
This “little” beast, with its updated v-twin liquid cooled engine, makes a respectable 75bhp and has bags of character. In fact this is exactly why I loved this bike so much!
It grunts and rumbles, making just the right noises at the right time, enhancing the riding experience.
Riding in town the suspensions feel nice and plush and very responsive at the front.
The rear could be a little stiffer though for more confidence out of the corners when pushed hard on those long bends. Basic preload adjustment can be found at the back.
Breaking hard isn’t really something the SV feels happy to do either, I would have preferred the stopping power of a Brembo mono-block. But you get four-piston front brake callipers, which gives alright stopping power.
Power delivery is very smooth at high gears, there’s no need for anything other than the 6th gear on the motorway, overtaking with ease.
Coming off the motorway (where it rides comfortably despite its ergonomics) and approaching the slower speed roads, it’s a very easy adjustment to make. The bike is so easily controllable at slow speeds, definitely one of my favourites. It would definitely make for the perfect commuter.
It’s a shame the dash is still an old fashioned digital display, no bright colours, nor any functionality added for 2020/21. The lack of traction control and power modes don’t bother me, at least you get ABS as standard.
There’s so much choice if you want to customise your new SV. Bar-end mirrors, a taller screen and an end-can are definitely a must for me, if I were to buy one.
Come check these bikes out at Bolton Motorcycles and ride them yourself, but full disclosure, if you do, you’ll want to buy one, I guarantee.
